Opened by Mary Wesley in 1981, Flowers Just-4-U is now the only Black-owned floral shop in the greater Seattle area. Wesley’s business has provided floral services for local churches and events, as well as arrangements for community members’ celebrations and homes. The shop’s original location was at 23rd Avenue and South Jackson Street, the historic center for the Central District’s Black businesses. Wesley was forced to relocate to the shop’s current location due to new development construction in 2018. At the end of 2019, community efforts led by Africatown Land Trust worked with Wesley to cover the shop’s financial shortages and build improvements to help the shop’s space and exterior visibility.

To continue learning about Seattle’s African American history, visit the Northwest African American Museum, located 1.5 miles south on 23rd Avenue. The Route 48 bus goes directly there.
