The grandfather of the district, the 1889 Massasoit Hotel displays the use of brick and iron on its Italianate facade. When the old “Villard” passenger depot was across the street, Colonel Pinkerton’s hotel was the easiest stop for visitors just arriving in Tacoma. It would cost you fifty cents a night or three dollars a week to stay. The building was rehabilitated in the early 1980s.
