As a first home for their burgeoning candy company, three brothers — Andrew, Walter, and Rudolph Weigel — built this four-story structure between 1904 and 1908. The confectioners were Dutch immigrants and pioneers in an industry that is still important in Tacoma. It is said the faint smell of chocolate can still be noticed in the building, even though candy hasn’t been made here in 40 years.
