WPA Plantings, Forest Park
Plantings on the hillside south of Mukilteo Boulevard and below the ballfield have retained much of the park’s 1930s design. Trees planted by WPA workers included cedar and pine, with the addition of deciduous specimen trees, laurel and English Ivy.
The Washington State Department of Natural Resources began a cleanup and restoration project in 2014, removing dead and dying trees and removing Himalayan blackberry, English ivy, laurels and other invasive plants. Parks has recently added newer trees to replace diseased and damaged trees. The newer trees include sequoia, cedar, pine, and vine maple and their work extends to other Everett parks, a total of 45 in 2021. Restoration continues with a 2022 master plan.
Continue downhill to Mukilteo Blvd and the West park entrance.
